Comelec in talks with Smartmatic for int'l certification of source code


The Commission on Elections has started meeting with IT provider Smartmatic for the international certification of the source code that will be used for the coming 2019 automated elections.

A report on Super Radyo dzBB on Saturday quoted Department of Science and Technology -Technical Evaluation Committee chairman Peter Antonio Banzon as saying that the poll body  will work with Smartmatic and a US-based company for the  international certification.

According Banzon, the certification process is in accordance with Republic Act 9639 (or the Automated System Law) provision regarding the software, hardware, and components that will be used in the automated elections.

Also, Banzon said that Smartmatic's voting machines will undergo inspection.

The May 2019 polls will be the fourth time Comelec  uses electronic vote counting machines. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
