Human rights advocate Sister Cresencia Lucero dies in Jakarta

Sister Crescencia Lucero of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (SFIC) better known as Sister Cres, died in Jakarta last Wednesday, May 15.

While in Jakarta attending a meeting on human rights, Sister Cres suffered a stroke, which caused cerebral hemorrhage and succumbed to it.

She was 77.

Sister Cres was considered “Grand Dame” of the human rights community in the Philippines, according to her colleagues in the Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP).

She was also a huge figure in justice and peace circle for heading the Association of Major Religious Superiors in the Philippines' Justice and Peace and Integrity of Creation ministry.

Also, she was part of the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA) and the Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (FORUM-ASIA) family for a long time, including serving as a member of its executive committee.
