Lacson: Duterte deserves to be president for life if he solves traffic, flight delays

Senator Panfilo Lacson said Monday President Rodrigo Duterte could be considered a superhuman if he would be able to cut travel time from Cubao to Makati to five minutes and eliminate flight delays.

Lacson added that for addressing such perennial problems, Duterte should be president for life.

“If PRRD delivers on just two promises he recently made: (1) to cut travel time from Cubao to Makati to 5 minutes within 6 months and; (2) to eliminate flight delays in NAIA within one month, for being superhuman, he deserves to be president for life,” he said in a Twitter post.

However, Lacson said Duterte should be held liable if he fails to fulfill his promises.

“Yes, as he should be held to account for promising to solve the country's drug problem as well as corruption that remains unabated in some traditionally graft-ridden agencies,” he said in a separate text  message.

Senate President Vicente Sotto, on the other hand, said the promises sounds good but does not have an idea yet how it can be done.

“Sounds good but I have no idea how yet,” Sotto said in a text message to reporters.

Duterte said things will improve come December.

"You don't have to worry about traffic... Cubao and Makati will be about five minutes na lang," Duterte said in a television interview over Pastor Apollo Quiboloy's Sonshine Media Network Saturday.

Earlier in the day, the President made a surprise inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport amid flight delays and cancellations.

He also apologized to the passengers and vowed to come up with a remedy within a month. — Amita Legaspi/RSJ, GMA News
