Duterte receives honorary doctorate from Moscow institute

President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations University in Moscow.

An honorary degree is awarded often in recognition of one's life experiences. It is denoted by the letters "h.c.", which is an abbreviation for "honoris causa", meaning "for the sake of honor."

The degree is the first to be accepted by the President.

"I have never accepted an honorary doctorate. I have never done anything for accolades. From my father I learned that public service is the greatest honor and its own reward," Durterte said, according to a tweet by Teddy Locsin Jr.
