Map of LGBT safe spaces, HIV testing centers in the works

A special map that highlights safe spaces for members of the LGBT community, as well as testing centers for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), is now in the works.

Mapbeks, a project that was started in October 2019, is powered by an online community of digital volunteers who advocate for LGBT inclusion and promote gender diversity.

“One night, triny kong mag-search ng information on LGBT sa OpenStreetMap.org, so that’s the Wikipedia of maps,” Mapbeks lead advocate Mikko Tamura said.

“Tapos sabi ko, ‘Saan ba dito sa Philippines ang may LGBT spaces?’ So wala akong nakita. We noticed that there are gaps in the data and information in the Philippines,” he added.
