PNP eyes establishing Chinese desks to address crimes involving Chinese nationals

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is eyeing to establish Chinese desks to address the increasing number of crime incidents which involve Chinese nationals, its new chief said on Monday.

“Matagal ko nang sinasabi that there will be constant coordination and just like any countries, we will be establishing Chinese desks and cross training on language and culture so that mas maintindihan natin why they are doing this and how they are going to do it,” Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said at a press briefing.

Gamboa further said a technical working group must be created to study the frequency of crimes as well as their possible motives.

“It’s happening all over the country like the government of Japan, the government of Korea has already been doing this since time before. So ito naman, we admit there is a rising threat to that; hence the need to really put up these desks,” Gamboa said.

Earlier reports indicated that kidnapping incidents among Chinese nationals have increased.

Gamboa said the government of China has been inviting PNP personnel to undergo training in China in order to learn how criminal groups work.

"As a matter of fact there are a lot of specialized schooling and visits that have been initiated by the Chinese government of sending members of the PNP to China so that we would understand more their culture and how their syndicates do their thing in China," Gamboa said.

In August 2019, the PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group said some of their personnel were sent to China to study Mandarin in order to help in solving Chinese-related kidnapping incidents. —KG, GMA News
