The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has released an order allowing all types of cargoes regardless if they carry food or non-food products to pass through checkpoints to ensure an unhampered movement of goods in light of the Luzon-wide enhanced community.

“The movement of ALL types of cargoes (Food & Non-Food) within, to and from the entire Luzon SHALL BE UNHAMPERED,” according to the DTI Memorandum Circular No. 20-08 dated March 20, 2020.

“If subjected to random inspection (with cargo before delivery or empties after delivery), the movement of cargoes SHALL NOT BE DELAYED, upon presentation of the cargo manifest or delivery receipt indicating the destination, nature and quantity of the loaded goods/cargoes,” the circular read.

The circular came after the Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. (PAMPI) has warned of “severe shortage” of processed meat products as it informed the DTI of logistical woes in checkpoints which caused their facilities’ inability to receive needed raw and packaging materials.

PAMPI also appealed to local government units to observe the guidelines set by the Inter-Agency Task Force to expedite the movement of its people, goods, and the raw materials needed for production.

During the “Laging Handa” press briefing, Philippine National Police spokesperson Brigadier General Bernard Banac said that unhampered movement of all types of cargoes was already being observed at checkpoints.

“Kahapon pa lamang nasimulan na ang implementation nito. Tuluy-tuloy na nakakaraan ang mga ito. Ipakita lang ang ID and certificates nila,” Banac said. -MDM, GMA News
