Trade chief Lopez favors gradual lifting of Luzon ‘lockdown’

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez is pushing for the gradual lifting of the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine, in favor of more essential businesses.

“[I’m] actually talking to the business community sila rin ang nagsasabi na mag-ingat din sa total lifting at tama rin ‘yung term na ‘yun modified o phased lifting o gradual lifting,” Lopez said during the “Laging Handa” public briefing on Wednesday.

The phased lifting, the Trade chief said, should focus more on essential businesses and their supply chain.

“Ibig sabhin ‘yung mga gumagawa ng inputs pagdating sa food, essential products, hygiene products, medical products, supply chain nito... supplier ng packaging inputs, raw materials, pati agriculture,” Lopez said.

“(Pati 'yung) ibang essential items kagaya ng hardware and other services,” he added.

The Cabinet official noted that mass gatherings and crowded places shall remain closed.

“‘Yung mga mass gatherings tulad ng konsiyerto, big events, theaters hindi pa rin siguro dapat asahan na mababalik ang mga ‘yon,” Lopez said.

With the gradual resumption of economic activities, the Trade chief noted that the “new norm” must be observed.

“‘Yung new norm sa pag-test ng workers, siguruhing walang sakit at observe social distancing,” he said.—AOL, GMA News
