Gov’t assistance programs vs. COVID-19 to last until May — DOF exec

Government assistance programs catering to those affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will last until May, the Department of Finance (DOF) said Thursday.

According to Finance Assistant Secretary Antonio "Tony" Lambino II, government assistance will last even after the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) which is currently set until April 30.

"'Yung atin pong disenyo ng ating mga programa ay mas mahaba kaysa dun sa unang announcement ng enhanced community quarantine," he said during the Laging Handa virtual briefing.

"May extension na nga tayo up to the end of the month, but we were able to put together programs na hanggang Mayo na po, so talagang we were keeping ahead of the curve," he added.

The ECQ placed over Luzon until April 30 was originally scheduled to end on April 13 after its implementation started on March 17.

Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III earlier said the Philippine government is looking to raise $23 billion or around P1.17 trillion to fuel the country's fight against the spread of COVID-19. — RSJ, GMA News
