Month-long Ramadan to start Friday, April 24, 2020

Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, is set to begin on Friday, April 24, 2020, according to Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan of the Bangsamoro Regional Darul Ifta.

The date was confirmed after a group formed by Udasan performed moonsighting on Wednesday.

"Based on this (moonsighting), the Darul Al Ifta has decided that the beginning of Ramadan will be on Friday 24th of April, 2020," Udasan said.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar when Muslims commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad.

The holy month calls for spiritual reflection through praying, fasting, and abstaining from sinful behavior. --KBK, GMA News
