P78-B out of P97-B in SAP funds already given by LGUs to 12.8 million beneficiaries -DSWD

Local government units (LGUs) have already distributed close to P80 billion to more almost 13 million beneficiaries of the Social Amelioration Program, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spokesperson Irene Dumlao said on Saturday.

"Sa kasalukuyan, ang local government units na ka-partner natin in the implementation of the Social Amelioration Program ay nakapagpamahagi na sa mahigit 12.8 million beneficiaries ng mahigit P78 billion," Dumlao said at the Laging Handa public briefing.

The figures form part of the more than P96.59 billion that the DSWD has already distributed for more than 17 million SAP beneficiaries.

"Sa kasalukuyan patuloy pa rin po ang ginagawang kooperasyon at monitoring ng departamento sa mga lokal na pamahalaan na sa kasulukyan ay nagpapatuloy 'yung kanilang isinasagawang payouts," Dumlao said.

The DSWD spokesperson added the agency continued to distribute resource augmentation to LGUs, particularly for the provision of family food packs and the Social Pension for Indigent Filipino senior citizens.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government is set to issue a show cause order against 43 mayors for their alleged poor performance in the distribution of the emergency cash subsidy to low-income families in their localities.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said the 43 LGUs had 79% and below accomplishment rate as of the final deadline set on May 10 midnight. He said 11 of these mayors are in Western Visayas, eight are in MIMAROPA, five in Central Visayas, four in the Davao Region, and four in Metro Manila.

LGUs that had poor distribution rate and did not meet the May 10 deadline also include two in Ilocos Region, two in Cagayan Valley; two in CALABARZON, two in Eastern Visayas, two in Northern Mindanao, and one in Central Luzon. -MDM, GMA News
