New normal guidelines implemented at NLEX Harbor Link

Workers at the construction site of the North Luzon Expressway Harbor Link on Saturday did their jobs under “the new normal” guidelines amid the coronavirus disease 2019 threat.

According to Bernadette Reyes's report, Mang Ernesto, who was used to eating with his co-workers during lunch time, now sat away from the others.

"Diyan, uupo kami, nakikisalo sa isang plato, pinagkakainan namin. Pero ngayon malayo na ang bawat isa [...] kanya-kanya na rin [ang pagkain]," he said.

"Noon, nu'ng wala pang COVID, syempre dikit-dikit. Ngayon, medyo ano na, buddy-buddy pa rin pero magkakalayo. Talagang pinaka-gap na 'yung 1.5 meters," the foreman said.

Aside from physical distancing, there was also a wash area and alcohol for the workers-- all of whom are wearing personal protective equipment such as masks and gloves.

Before construction workers can return to work, they must first undergo a 14-day quarantine or take a rapid test, depending on the company.

They must also stay at the temporary shelter of the company.

According to the report, only 21-year-olds to 59-year-olds will be allowed to work under the new guidelines.
