Gamboa orders probe into Lucban police's victim-blaming post

After a recent Lucban Municipal Police Station social media post was criticized for being sexist and for being a case of victim-blaming, Philippine National Police chief  Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa on Saturday directed the Directorate for Police Community Relations to look into the matter.

Specifically, the Lucban Municipal Police Station chief Police Major Rizaldi Merene and all police officers involved would be made to explain why they had authored the post.

They would also be made to justify why no administrative sanctions should be imposed on them for their actions despite earlier instructions to take down posts with similar content.

On Facebook, the police unit wrote, "Kayo naman mga gherlsz, 'wag kayo magsusuot ng pagkaikli-ikling damit at pag naman nabastos ay magsusumbong din sa amin. Isipinin niyo rin!"

“The PNP strongly advocates the protection of women and children and maintains a strict set of guidelines for its personnel on the use of social media,” Gamboa said in a Saturday statement.
