SWS: 72% of Pinoys received aid from gov’t amid COVID-19 crisis

Seventy-two percent of adult Filipinos surveyed by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) said they received financial aid from the government amid the coronavirus pandemic, the research institution said Sunday.

In a non-commissioned special national mobile phone survey conducted from July 3 to 6, the SWS asked 1,555 adult Filipinos: “Mula noong nagsimula ang krisis sa COVID-19, nakatanggap na po ba ang inyong pamilya ng kahit na anong" tulong na pera mula sa kahit na anong sangay o ahensiya ng gobyerno?”

The poll found that the proportion of adults who said that they received aid from the government was highest in Metro Manila at 85%, followed by Balance Luzon at 75%, Visayas at 64%, and Mindanao at 65%.

The SWS also noted that 75% of women said that their families received financial help from the government, higher than the 67% of men who said the same.

The proportion of respondents who said they received aid was also higher among those 18 to 54 years old than among those aged 55 and above.

The poll also found that more families among the less educated received financial aid from the government.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development earlier reported that only 17% or 2.1 million of the 12 million beneficiaries of the second tranche of the government’s cash assistance program had received the aid as of July 15.  — DVM, GMA News
