Go: Gov't unable to indefinitely provide aid during pandemic

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said on Saturday said that a balance needed to be struck as the government could not indefinitely provide citizens with aid amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In a radio interview, Go said that the government was also facing difficulties as President Rodrigo Duterte had used up major resources in the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act.

“‘Yung gobyerno naman po ang tatagilid ang barko kung iiaasa natin sa gobyerno ang lahat ng ayuda. So babalansehin talaga natin, ang Filipino kailangan magtrabaho,” Go said.

“Mahirapan tayo kung patuloy ang MECQ, balanse talaga. Rest assured, pinag-iisipan maigi ng IATF ‘yan at Pangulo kung ano po ang magiging desisyon nila sa susunod na araw po,” he added.

Metro Manila, among other areas, reverted back to a modified enhanced community quarantine given the surge in the number of COVID-19 cases.

At present, the Philippines reported a total of 126,885 COVID-19 cases with 67,117 recoveries and 2,209 fatalities.

Go also appealed to the public to cooperate with the government in the battle against COVID-19.

“[Y]ou may criticize government, sabi nga ni Pangulo you may criticize him, anytime po 'yan, para makatulong sa kanya pero sa ngayon po, aside from criticizing the government, tulungan nyo naman ang government na maging successful sa laban na ito,” he said.

“Hindi natin ito napaghandaan. Wala naman pong nakapag-handa kahit sa ibang bansa ay hirap din po sila so until merong vaccine ‘wag kayong maging kampante, cooperate kayo, sumunod kayo sa gobyerno,” he added. — DVM, GMA News
