Face shield prices up ahead of mandatory use in public transport

Prices of face shields have started to go up, ahead of their mandatory use for all passengers in public transportation starting August 15.

Several vendors, such as Alda Villagarilao who sells face shields in Divisoria, have already hiked prices due to high demand.

"Dati ang presyo niya nasa P18 and wholesale. Nasa P40 na... Mabili sa tao kaya nagmahal," she said in a report on GMA's "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, noting that retail prices have already gone as high as P50.

The same was reported by Russell Selpan, a vendor in a stall in Baclaran who noted that supply has been dwindling as people have been buying in bulk to resell them in their respective areas.

"Minan may kumukuha ng 1,000 pieces, 500 pieces, ganon... Ibebenta din daw," he said in the same report.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) last week released a Memorandum Circular which mandates the use of face shields, aside from wearing face masks, in any mode of public transportation service effective August 15, 2020.

The Philippines on Sunday reported 3,109 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total confirmed cases to 129,313. This includes 67,673 recoveries and 2,270 deaths.  — Jon Viktor Cabuenas/DVM, GMA News
