Maintenance, security workers lament lack of COVID-19 hazard pay
Maintenance and security personnel, especially those stationed at hospitals, on Tuesday lamented the lack of hazard pay amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras,” a janitress at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) said there were times when she had to clean rooms of COVID-19 patients.
Though afraid, Maniquiz said she persevered due to the ’no work, no pay’ policy.
Meanwhile, a security officer at the NKTI said it seemed as if they were not considered frontliners.
The other security guards, meanwhile, argued they deserved the hazard pay as they were the first to interact with patients, both healthy and sick, who arrived at the hospital amid the pandemic. — Joahna Lei Casilao/DVM, GMA News
