Over 10,000 health workers now infected with COVID-19 —DOH


The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported that 356 more health workers contracted the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) over the past week, raising the total to 10,178 as of October 10.

In its daily COVID-19 report, the DOH said total recoveries among health workers rose to 9,562 after 462 more recovered from the respiratory disease, while the death toll climbed to 63 with two new fatalities.

The other 553 medical workers are active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

The five medical professions with the highest number of COVID-19 cases are nurses with 3,543 infections, doctors with 1,801, nursing assistants with 774, medical technologists with 475, and midwives with 262 cases.

Over 500 other non-medical personnel such as utility workers, security guards, and administrative staff were also included in the tally.

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said the government hired nearly 9,000 additional medical workers to augment the country’s health workforce.
