Pope Francis appoints Cardinal Advincula as member of Congregation of Clergy

Pope Francis has appointed Archbishop of Capiz Cardinal Jose Advincula as a member of the Congregation for the Clergy, the Holy See Press Office announced.

The Pontiff also appointed Cardinal Cornelius Sim titular bishop of Putia in Numidia and vicar apostolic of Brunei in the same office, which is responsible for the formation, ministry and life of priests.

The Congregation of Clergy, based in Vatican City, is currently headed by Cardinal Benjamin Stella.

Advincula was among nine cardinals given assignments by Pope Francis this week in various dicasteries in the Roman Curia.

A former seminary formator, Advincula was appointed bishop of San Carlos in Negros Occidental in 2001 and was transferred to Capiz as archbishop ten years after. -- BAP, GMA News
