OCTA urges gov't to include emerging COVID-19 high-risk areas in vaccination priority

An expert from OCTA Research on Tuesday advised the government to include COVID-19 high-risk areas and hotspots as priority in the vaccination.

“Sa original proposal namin, i-prioritize ang NCR Plus…pero sa prioritization naman hindi naman natin nakalimutan itong mga high-risk areas at mga hotspots nagi-emerge…So talagang kasama rin sa prioritization dapat itong mga emerging high risk areas,” Dr. Guido David told Unang Hirit in an interview.

(In our original proposal, the NCR Plus should be prioritized in the vaccination…but we also include these emerging high-risk areas and hotspots. So they should be included in the priority.)

According to David, the government has decided to prioritize NCR+8, or Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Pampanga, Metro Cebu, and Metro Davao.

In its recent report, OCTA Research identified a new set of areas of concern in light of the spread of COVID-19: Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Koronadal, Cotabato, Davao, Bacolod, Iloilo, Dumaguete and Tuguegarao.

On Sunday, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said President Rodrigo Duterte wanted to distribute vaccines to other provinces such as Zamboanga and other areas in Western Visayas.

Galvez said the 1 million doses of Sinovac vaccine that arrived on Sunday will be given to provinces that are considered high-risk for COVID-19 spread. —KBK, GMA News
