4,479 new COVID-19 infections logged, active cases now at 50,037


The Philippines on Tuesday reported 4,479 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the country's total tally to 1,408,058, as 14 laboratories failed to submit data on time.

The data on the new cases is the lowest since the 4,353 recorded on June 23.

The Department of Health said the new cases brought the active tally in the country to 50,037 of which, 90.4% are mild, 4.4% are asymptomatic, 2.1% are severe, and 1.5% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 1,333,464 after 6,471 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness.

The death toll climbed to 24,557 with 101 new fatalities.

The DOH said nine duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 28 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases.

Further, 75 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH showed that 55% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 43% of the ICU beds are in use, while 34% of the ventilators are utilized.—LDF, GMA News
