NPC members give Sotto consent to run for vice president

Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Wednesday said some members of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) had given him their consent to run for vice president in Eleksyon 2022.

Sotto made the remark after calling his party mates to a meeting.

“Unanimous consent of those present. Alliances will be discussed in future meetings,” Sotto said in a message sent to reporters.

Sotto earlier said that he was leaving it up to the party to choose its official nominee after he was asked about party mate Senator Sherwin Gatchalian's possible vice presidential bid.

Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson has confirmed that he and Sotto would run for president and vice president in the elections next year.

According to a Pulse Asia survey, 4% of Filipinos said they would vote Lacson for president while 10% of Filipinos said they would vote for Sotto.

Sotto ranked third among the preferred vice-presidential candidates in the upcoming elections, following Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

In his last State of the Nation Address, President Rodrigo Duterte said Sotto could become a good vice president.

Malacañang later clarified that Duterte did not endorse Sotto. —NB, GMA News
