The Philippine government has fully vaccinated over 12.87 million people against COVID-19 as of August 18, the Department of Health said Thursday.

Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje, chief of the DOH's National Vaccination Operations Center, said 12,877,197 individuals have been fully vaccinated, including:

For its COVID-19 vaccine program, the Philippines aims to inoculate 1.63 million health workers, 8.27 million senior citizens, 7.08 million persons with comorbidities, 28.29 million essential workers, and 12.91 million indigents.

In total, the government seeks to inoculate over 77 million Filipinos.

Since March 1, 2021, the country has administered 29,127,240 shots, of which 16,250,043 were first dose.

Cabotaje also said the DOH is considering the inclusion of booster shots in the 2022 budget but stressed that it will be up to the All Experts Group.

Earlier, the United States announced that Americans should get a booster shot eight months after their second dose.

However, the World Health Organization said that current data do not support the need for booster doses. —LBG, GMA News
