Belgica: Some officials asked me to go easy on my job in exchange of Eleksyon 2022 support

Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) chairman Greco Belgica  said Tuesday certain government officials that his agency is investigating have asked him to go easy on them in exchange of support in the May 2022 polls.

Belgica made the statement when asked how would his inclusion as one of the Senate bets of the ruling party PDP-Laban will affect his work as PACC commissioner.

“Ang tanging epekto lang po nito ay ang mga taong naiimbestigahan ko ay nagpapasabi at nagpapalapit na tutulungan daw nila ako sa eleksyon kaya sabi ko sa kanila, 'huwag ninyong sasabihin sa akin 'yan, dahil isasama ko sa report ko 'yan,” Belgica said during the Laging Handa briefing.

(The effect is that people I am investigating are coming to me and saying they will support my election bid. What I told them is that they should not say that to me because I will include that in my report).

Belgica, however, did not name the individuals supposedly asking favors from him.

The PACC official assured the public that he is not compromised.

“As [far as] my professional work is concerned and my commitment to the anti-corruption campaign of the President and to the people, this [inclusion in the PDP-Senate slate] won’t affect my work,” he added.

Belgica has yet to figure in the winning circle or top 12 in pre-election polls.
