Palace: Duterte’s SALN release up to Ombudsman

The release of President Rodrigo Duterte's Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) is under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Ombudsman, Malacañang said Monday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque was responding Vice President Leni Robredo’s challenge for the Chief Executive to release his SALN to show that he is really against corruption.

“The stance of the Office of the President has been clear and consistent: We leave it to the Office of the Ombudsman, an independent constitutional body, to release to the public President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s SALN,” Roque said.

“The President has complied with his constitutional duty to submit or file his SALN,” Roque added.

Parties seeking access to the President’s SALN, Roque said, should write a formal communication to the Office of the Ombudsman which is the repository of all the SALNs of all public officials.

In September 2020, Ombudman Samuel Martires issued a policy requiring the consent of the SALN's owner before his office can grant a request for a copy.

Duterte last released his SALN publicly in 2017.

Robredo, in contrast, has been regularly releasing her yearly SALN since being elected Vice President in 2016. — BM, GMA News
