Go willing to face Senate ethics probe, says he has nothing to hide

Senator Bong Go on Wednesday said he is willing to face any probe that will be launched by the Senate ethics committee over his supposed links to a former Department of Budget and Management official being tagged to the alleged overpricing of pandemic supplies.

“[K]ung may mag-file man ng reklamo laban sa akin sa committee on ethics, rerespetuhin ko naman ang desisyon ng mga kapwa kong senador,” Go said in a statement.

(If they will file a complaint against me before the committee on ethics, I will respect the decision of my fellow senators.)

“Kung gusto nila akong imbestigahan, imbestigahan po nila. Wala naman akong itinatago. Wala rin akong kinatatakutan dahil alam kong wala akong ginawang mali, lalo na pagdating sa disorderly o unethical behavior na sakop ng komiteng iyan,” he added.

(If they want to investigate me, they are free to do so. I have nothing to hide and I am not afraid of anything because I know I did not commit anything wrong, especially when it comes to disorderly or unethical behavior which the committee should focus on.)

Go believes the Senate will uphold fairness and due process should the ethics committee probe pushes through.

He said anew that the will resign from his post if it will be proven that he was involved in any type of corruption.

“[K]ung napatunayan nilang may ginawa akong mali, tatanggapin ko kung anuman ang nasa batas o Senate rules,” he said.

(It they can prove that I did something wrong, then I will accept what the law or the Senate rules state.)

“Walang pili po dapat ang hustisya. Pero hindi naman pwedeng haka-haka at patutsada lang,” he added.

(Justice should not be selective but we should not judge based on mere speculations or tirades.)

It was Senate blue ribbon committee chairman Richard Gordon who floated the idea of a Senate ethics panel probe against Go over his alleged links to resigned Budget Undersecretary Christopher Lloyd Lao.

Lao was the DBM Procurement Service chief when the government purchased the overpriced face masks and face shields.

Gordon said at least four senators are supportive of the possible ethics probe against Go.

Earlier in the day, Senate ethics committee chairman Manny Pacquiao said he is willing to lead the investigation if a complaint is filed before the panel.

“Depende po yan, as chairman of ethics committee, kung may mga reklamo po na mai-submit sa committee ko po, mararapat lamang na aksyunan ko,” Pacquiao said in a television interview. — RSJ, GMA News
