Philippines registers all-time high 22,415 new COVID-19 cases


The Philippines on Monday logged 22,415 additional coronavirus disease infections, increasing the country's total caseload to 2,103,331.

The new infections is the highest than the record-high new cases posted on August 30, with 22,366.

The Department of Health (DOH) case bulletin also indicated that the new cases brought the active tally to 159,633, the highest since April 13, which logged 165,534 active cases.

Moreover, DOH said the fatality tally nationwide rose to 34,337, with 103 new deaths.

Further, 20,109 more COVID-19 patients recovered, bringing the total tally of recoveries to 1,909,361.

Despite renewed calls to increase COVID-19 testing capacity, Philippines total conducted tests was at 73,264. COVID-19 positivity rate in the country was at 28.8%, far from the international standard of less than 5%.

After final validation, DOH modified the total case tally by removing 68 duplicates, including 53 recoveries.

Also, seven recoveries were reclassified as deaths.

All laboratories were operational on Sept. 4 but eight laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System, the DOH also said.—LDF, GMA News
