Comelec to extend voter registration from Oct. 9 to 31 —Abas

The Commission on Elections is set to extend the voter registration from October 9 to 31, Comelec chairman Sheriff Abas said on Wednesday.

“Ang initial [plan], we will conduct it after the filing [of the certificate of candidacy.] That is the time that we will start again the extension for the registration up to the end of October,” Abas said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

“Sa Comelec, no one, walang isang nagsabi na they are in favor of the extension. However, ‘yun na nga binalanse namin uli at ang consensus ng mga members ng en banc, they will more likely approve the extension,” he added.

This will be formalized in an en banc session later today, Wednesday.

Abas said the decision to resume the registration on October 9 was because the  Comelec will be “very busy” in accepting the COCs of various candidates all over the country.

As of September 11, Abas said there are 63,364,932 registered voters for Eleksyon 2022. —KG, GMA News
