OCTA: Philippine active COVID-19 cases to be halved if previous reports resolved

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is expected to be nearly halved once the classification of cases from the previous months is resolved, the OCTA Research Group reported.

According to a white paper released by the OCTA Research Group Fellow Dr. Guido David and Dr. Michael Tee, the number of active cases in the country should be lower by about 48% once old cases are resolved.

The data was based on the health bulletin released on Saturday, November 27, which recorded 17,052 active cases after 899 new cases were reported.

The latest data shows that moderate, severe, and critical cases (MSC) accounted for 45% of active cases, compared with the 5.2% recorded on July 27 this year.

“As an illustration, if we exclude cases dating from March 2020 to September 2021 from the list of active cases, and only count cases reported October to November 2021, the number of active cases in the database would decrease from 17,052 to 8,937, or a reduction of 48%,” the paper read.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 838 new COVID-19 infections, raising the country’s active case count to 16,630.

Of the active cases, 47.8% are categorized as mild, 7.1% are symptomatic, 15.2% are severe, and 6.5% are in critical condition. — DVM, GMA News
