PNP: Six active private armies monitored ahead of Eleksyon 2022

The Philippine National Police is monitoring six private armed groups and other potential terrorist groups which may disrupt Eleksyon 2022.

In a statement, PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said the PNP was looking to stop these armed groups’ ill-intentions of spreading fear and harassing the public as the national and elections draw near.

“Aside from these, there are also about 138 potential PAGs that are under our monitoring. Now that the election is fast approaching, we might expect that these groups may be activated,” Carlos said.

Carlos said the PNP would deploy more police in places with private armies.

The PNP is profiling the members of these groups to link their connections and identify their capabilities.

Aside from intensifying intelligence gathering, the PNP will also look for loose firearms and subject them to legitimate police operations.

Carlos asked the public to report suspicious persons and activities.

“This is two-way traffic. We call the public to help us by reporting to authorities suspicious individuals lurking in their areas,” Carlos said.

Carlos earlier said that the campaign against communist insurgency would receive a “new shot in the arm” ahead of Eleksyon 2022. -NB, GMA News
