8 NPA guerrillas killed in Iloilo clash with gov't troops —Army

Eight members of the New People's Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, were killed in a clash with government troops on Wednesday, December 1, in Miag-ao, Iloilo.

In a report on Facebook, the Philippine Army said that security forces from the 301st Infantry Brigade conducted military operation at about 6 a.m. in Barangay Alimodias, in response to information that a group of CPP-NPA rebels had gathered in the hinterland barangays of Miag-ao to plan their attacks.

According to the report, the clash lasted for several hours, resulting in the death of,  at least,  eight communist rebels.

After the gun battle,  government troops recovered eight cadavers, and seized three M16 rifles, one AK47 rifle, four Anti-Personnel Mines, three detonators, one projector, subversive documents with high intelligence value, and assorted personal belongings.

Major General Benedict Arevalo, Commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry Division commended the troops in their military operations, and thanked residents for for providing information on the rebels' activities.

“We are determined to employ all of our military assets to wipe the [rebels] out from the communities. With the people on our side, we are committed to persistently press the communist-terrorists on the brink of downfall to end their decades-long cruelty finally,” Arevalo said.

The CPP is set to celebrate its 53rd founding anniversary on December 26. —LBG, GMA News
