Comelec warns vs. fake operatives offering sure election win for a fee

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday warned against unscrupulous individuals claiming to be poll body operatives who collect a fee in exchange of supposed guaranteed victory in the 2022 elections.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said such racketeers have been involved in this scheme since 2010, the year the Philippines held its first ever automated polls.

"These supposed Comelec service providers claim that the election system can be bought. This is false. This is not possible," Jimenez said.

Jimenez said that candidates for single position race from different camps are commonly approached by these operatives.

"For those who did not win [despite paying for their services] gets a refund. They claim that they can make things happen when they cannot do anything," Jimenez added.

The May 9, 2022 polls will be the country's fifth automated polls but will be the first election to be held amid a COVID-19 pandemic. — BM, GMA News
