PNP to deploy additional cops for Christmas season

More cops will be deployed to ensure the safety of the public during the Christmas season, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.

PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said more policemen are needed for night time patrols and public safety operations.

“These will be crucial days that will challenge the resolve of the church, police, local governments, and health authorities in implementing minimum public health standards under Alert Level 2, without breaking tradition and spoiling the festive mood of the season,” he said in a statement.

According to Carlos, the PNP monitors the nine-day Misa de Gallo novena masses, which will start on December 16, as well as the midnight masses on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Aside from these activities, the PNP said they are also monitoring the extended mall hours, and operation of night markets, and food parks during  the Christmas season.

Carlos reminded churchgoers that only 70% capacity is allowed inside churches and to observe physical distancing protocol in public spaces.

“Our people can expect more police personnel on foot and mobile patrol to establish police visibility as deterrent to crime,” he said.

"The public should not be alarmed when they see police mobile units with flashing blinkers to announce their presence. It only means that your PNP is just around and ready to extend assistance when needed,” he added.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
