By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

The Philippine National Police on Thursday reminded the public to strictly observe minimum public health standards against COVID-19 after the detection of the Omicron variant in the country.

“Since the extension of the implementation of Alert Level 2 throughout the country until the end of December, the same quarantine protocol will be observed,” PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said in a statement.

“But as Christmas draws near, more people are going outdoors for holiday shopping. We can’t be complacent now,” he added.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health (DOH) announced that the Omicron coronavirus variant has been detected in two international travelers.

Carlos reminded the public to always wear a face mask and face shield, especially in public places, and observe physical distancing as well as personal hygiene.

Amid the Christmas season, the PNP already deployed more cops in concerned areas to ensure public safety and order in extended religious and shopping activities. — BM, GMA News
