The government has administered over 2.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines during the second round of its national vaccination drive "Bayanihan Bakunahan", according to an official of the Department of Health (DOH).

During PTV’s Laging Handa, Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje said a total of 2,369,216 doses were administered during the December 15 to 17 “Bayanihan Bakunahan” drive.

“This is 31% our total target seven million,” Cabotaje said in a mix of English and Filipino.

Of the total, 1.65 million doses were administered on December 15 while 759,028 and 544,539 were administered on December 16 and 17, respectively.

The lower turnout was expected since the second round of national vaccination drive was suspended in some areas in anticipation of the onslaught of Typhoon Odette.

President Rodrigo Duterte approved the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19’s recommendation to reschedule the vaccination drive in areas to be affected by Odette to December 20 to 22.

The DOH said the vaccination drive will be postponed in Regions V, IV-B, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI and XII, as well as in Caraga and the Bangsamoro regions.

So far, the government has administered 100,600,809 doses of COVID-19 vaccines of which 56,167,765 were administered as first dose and 43,351,844 were given as second dose. Meanwhile, 1,081,200 doses were administered as booster shots. —LBG, GMA News
