Vice presidential aspirant Senator Francisco “Kiko” Pangilinan on Saturday asked local and international aid agencies to help and assist communities affected by Typhoon Odette.

Pangilinan expressed concern as several areas in the country still have no communications, adding that it was difficult to assess the extent of the typhoon’s onslaught.

“Pakikiisa sa ating mga kababayan na nasalanta ng panibagong trahedya na dumating habang lahat tayo ay naghahanda sa kapaskuhan,” the senator said in a statement.

(We need to help our affected countrymen who were devastated by another typhoon as we all prepare for the holiday season.)

“Ang tradisyon ng Pasko na pagbibigayan ay mas makabuluhan kung ishe-share natin ang ating mga biyaya sa mga nasalanta ng bagyong Odette,” he added.

(The tradition of Christmas giving is even more meaningful if we share our blessings with the victims of Odette.)

Pangilinan said among the urgent needs of the affected residents were food, water, and medicines for cough, cold, and fever.

He said Vice President Leni Robredo and his office were open to receive donations for the typhoon victims.

Donors can also drop-off their donations at 48 Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City, or donate to Angat Buhay partner, Tanging Yaman Foundation at Metrobank: 4487448013142 and BPI: 9601000242.

“Walang ambag na maliit, lahat may halaga. Muli nating ipamalas sa buong mundo na sa kabila ng napakaraming pagsubok na ating kinakaharap, ang mga Pilipino ay likas na may malaking puso at pagmamahal sa kapwa,” he added.

(There is no small contribution, everything has value. Let us once again show the world that despite the many trials we face, Filipinos are naturally kind-hearted and compassionate.)

Robredo on Friday visited typhoon-hit communities in Bohol to provide relief and assess the situation in the area.

President Rodrigo Duterte also announced that he would visit the provinces ravaged by Typhoon Odette to see the conditions and overall situations in the areas. — DVM, GMA News
