Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday visited areas in Palawan battered by Typhoon Odette.

Robredo shared photos of her visit in the coastal communities in San Vicente and Roxas, which were severely devastated during the onslaught of the super typhoon last week.

“We were in San Vicente and Roxas, Palawan this morning. Several areas, specially the coastal communities, suffered the greatest brunt of Odette,” Robredo said in a Facebook post.

“Sharing with you some pictures from this morning. While these can give you a glimpse of how it looks like there, they can never encapsulate the heartbreak and feeling of helplessness of those who lost their homes and those who lost loved ones,” she added.

The vice president said she also had meetings with the local officials of these areas and gave briefings of the extent of damage in their respective towns.

“Mayor Amy of San Vicente, Mayor Christian of Taytay, and Mayor Dennis of Roxas gave us briefings of the extent of the damage their towns suffered,” she said.

Robredo earlier said that disaster relief and assistance, not politics, is her goal in visiting the areas hit by Odette, and emphasized her commitment to help affected families.

She also expressed gratitude to local officials for providing support during the distribution of relief assistance.

The Vice President has visited typhoon-hit communities in Bohol, Cebu, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte including Siargao, Negros Occidental, and Southern Leyte to provide relief and assess the situation in the area last week.

Earlier, Robredo said that her office will be able to visit all areas hit by Typhoon Odette.

"Ang assurance ko po sa inyo, mapupuntahan lahat ng lugar na nasalanta. Kung hindi po ako mismo dahil solong katawan po ako, iyong teams po namin...lahat ng lugar, maaabot po ng teams namin on the ground kasi halos anim na taon na namin itong ginagawa," she said.

(My assurance to you is that we will go to all the areas hit by Odette. If not me, because I just have one body, then our teams. Our teams on the ground will be able to reach them, because we've been doing this for six years.) — BM, GMA News
