PNP: No confirmed looting incident in Odette-hit areas

The Philippine National Police on Tuesday said that there are no confirmed reports of looting in areas affected by Typhoon Odette.

“What we are saying is there are no looting incidents that has been recorded yet sa mga police units,” PNP chief Police Lieutenant General Dionardo Carlos told GMA News Online in a message.

“May mga kumalat kasi na mga balita regarding this in Bohol, Siargao and Dinagat Islands pero there is no truth to this claim,” he added.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Carlos said that the reports have reached the police organization, but there is no official complaint on the matter.

“Unfortunately until today, wala tayong na-receive officially na dumulog sa ating mga police stations, particularly sa area ng Bohol and parts of Siargao,” he said.

Earlier, Bohol Governor Arthur Yap appealed for funds from the national government with which to buy food, warning of looting that could occur amid the lack of food and water after the typhoon.

Carlos expressed optimism that the continuing relief efforts in the affected areas will help the victims.

He added that the PNP will remain vigilant for possible looting incidents. — BM, GMA News
