The government is planning to conduct a national vaccination day for senior citizens and for the inoculation of booster shots, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said Wednesday.

“We are planning to put up a national vaccination day for the senior citizens and also for those who have completed their primary series first and second doses. We are pushing for a more aggressive booster of said groups (A2 and A3),” Duque said during the Go Negosyo town hall meeting.

Duque reiterated the need to further encourage the public to get the primary series and the booster doses “at the soonest possible time” but he said the prioritization framework should still be followed.

Earlier, it was reported that the government is eyeing a monthly National COVID-19 Immunization Day

Since November, the Philippines has been accelerating its vaccine rollout in order to fully inoculate up to 54 million people by the end of the year and 77 million by the first quarter of 2022.

Recently, acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles said 7,497,802 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered during the second round of vaccination days (December 15 to 23) despite the disruption caused by Typhoon Odette.
