Robredo slams fake news of daughters skipping COVID-19 quarantine

By LLANESCA T. PANTI,GMA News

Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday called out "fake news peddlers" on social media for claiming her daughters did not follow COVID-19 quarantine protocol when they returned to the Philippines from the United States.

"Wala po itong katotohanan ito. Sinasadya na lang talaga magsinungaling dahil may mga napapaniwala (These claims are false. They deliberately lie because they know there are those who believe them). This is already criminal and malicious," Robredo, a lawyer, said.

"Nagsu-surge na, imbes na tumulong, nagnenegosyo pa ng kasinungalingan (Amid the surge in COVID-19 cases, these people make money out of lies instead of helping those in need)," Robredo added.

Robredo said she has repeatedly shared to the public what happened to her daughters.

She said Tricia, a medical doctor, tested positive for COVID-19 on December 25 during fifth day of mandatory quarantine.  She was then transferred to an isolation facility.

Before she was released on January 4, Tricia already tested negative for COVID-19 for three straight days.

Aika and Jillian tested negative for COVID-19 after five days of mandatory quarantine and finished quarantine at home.

"Wala siyang (Tricia) nahawa kahit isa because she followed all the required protocols. Kahapon lang ulit kaming apat nagkasama-sama (Tricia did not infect anybody. We only reunited yesterday, January 4)," Robredo said.—LDF, GMA News
