PNP daily COVID-19 cases almost tripled with 295 new infections

From 100 on Wednesday, the number of daily COVID-19 infections among the personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) has almost tripled to 295 on Thursday, bringing the total active cases to 552.

In an update, the PNP said it has reported a total of 42,645 cases, of which, at least 41,968 have already recovered from the disease.

The death toll in the police organization due to COVID-19 remained at 125.

Meanwhile, a total of 215,375 PNP personnel (95.57%) are already fully vaccinated, while 8,456 (3.75%) are waiting for their second dose.

At least 1,523 PNP personnel (0.68%) have yet to be vaccinated.

On Tuesday, PNP chief Police General Dionardo Carlos confirmed that he tested positive for COVID-19.

Carlos said he as well as his close-in security and staff underwent RT-PCR tests on Sunday after his personnel experienced fever and chills.

Aside from him, his duty driver and aide also tested positive for the disease. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
