Almost half of the dedicated beds for COVID-19 patients at the Lung Center of the Philippines (LCP) are now occupied, its spokesperson said Thursday.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, LCP spokesman Dr. Norberto Francisco said a total of 42 beds out of the 87 dedicated hospital beds are occupied.

Francisco, however, stressed that this is less than half of the hospital’s patients during previous surges.

“Just to give a comparison, nung nagka-surge tayo lumalagpas kami ng 150 beds na punuan. So ngayon, we are about half when there is a surge. Out of that half, kalahati ng kalahati ang may laman,” he said.

(Just to give a comparison, during previous surges, we had around 15 occupied beds. So now, we are at half. Out of that, another half are occupied.)

According to Francisco, most of the patients are moderate cases.

“Ang maganda lang dito is karamihan ng mga kaso nasa moderate sila. ‘Yung admitted mga non-critical moderate. ‘Yung ciritcal namin nasa 1/3 of the cases,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said around 85% of the hospital’s admissions are unvaccinated while around 10% to 15% are vaccinated.

“So this emphasizes the need, the importance, really, for vaccination,” he said.

Francisco also assured that the hospital is monitoring the situation.
