AFP chief Centino positive for COVID-19

The Armed Forces of the Philippines has confirmed that military chief General Andres Centino tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

In a statement issued Friday, AFP spokesperson Colonel Ramon Zagala said  Centino is in an isolation facility in Camp Aguinaldo where he will continue to perform his duty amid quarantine.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines confirms that the AFP chief of staff, General Andres Centino, has tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday,” Zagala said.

“He remains in full command of the AFP, supervising all units in carrying out their assigned tasks through all allowed and available means,” he added. 

General Centino reminded military personnel to always observe safety measures and follow health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19, according to Zagala.

To perform their mandate in protecting the people and the state, Zagala said the AFP maintains advocating the preservation of the military force. 

According to Zagala, the AFP currently has 133 active COVID-19 cases, while 20,322 cases were already cleared from the disease.

The death toll among the military due to COVID-19 is at 43, he added. — RSJ, GMA News
