Areas under granular lockdown nationwide increase to 116 from 85 —PNP

From 85, the number of areas under granular lockdown in the country has increased to 116, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Tuesday.

In an update as of Monday, the PNP said 76 areas under lockdown were reported from the National Capital Region (NCR); 33 from Cagayan; five from Mimaropa; and one each from Ilocos and Cordillera.

At least 446 people were affected by the granular lockdowns, according to the PNP.

To ensure security and adherence to minimum health standards in the concerned areas, the PNP said 191 personnel and 225 force multipliers were deployed.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level quarantine for areas classified as "critical zones" by the local government unit (LGU).

According to officials, granular lockdowns could be implemented on a house, compound, street or building with high cases of infections.

On Monday, the Philippines again registered an all-time high of new COVID-19 infections with 33,169, raising the country's total caseload to 2,998,530. The country's active COVID-19 cases rose to 157,526. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
