Army acquires 15 new armored mortar carriers from Israel

The Philippine Army has acquired 15 new M125A2 armored mortar carriers (AMCs) equipped with 120mm mounted mortar systems from Israel as part of its modernization program.

Lieutenant General Romeo Brawner Jr., commanding general of the Philippine Army, welcomed the delivery of the equipment.

"These new armor assets will bolster the Army's capability to deal with constantly evolving threats,” he said in a statement on Monday.

“With the realization of upcoming big-ticket modernization projects, the Philippine Army is on track to becoming a formidable and adaptive force capable of responding to a multitude of conventional and unconventional threats," he added.

Meanwhile, Armor Division Commander Major General Efren Baluyot said the new assets will provide close and immediate indirect fire support for maneuver units while quickly deploying in tactical situations.

The Army's Armor Division obtained the AMCs from Israel's Elbit Systems on December 29.

They will be inspected within the first quarter of the year by the Technical Inspection and Acceptance Committee (TIAC) before their acceptance into the Army's field units. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
