Marcos Jr.: Why ban political dynasties?

By MA. ANGELICA GARCIA,GMA News

Presidential aspirant and former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. implied on Monday that there was nothing wrong with political dynasties.

In an interview on One PH, Marcos said political dynasties were not necessarily bad.

"Why would you make political dynasty illegal? Paano kung 'yon ang gusto ng tao? The perception is political dynasty is bad, which is not the case," he said.

"You are targeting a very specific group in society. Ang pulitika naman is all about performance. If you're worried about dynasties then take everybody to an election," he added.

Marcos said an election was "the best way to get rid of political dynasty."

Four presidential aspirants in the 2022 elections who participated in "The Jessica Soho Presidential Interviews" over the weekend said they were against political dynasties.

Marcos refused to join the interview with Soho as he accused her of being "biased."

GMA Network on Saturday objected to the statement of the Marcos camp that Soho was biased against the Marcoses.

The network stressed that throughout her career, Soho had consistently been named the most trusted media personality in the Philippines by both local and foreign organizations.

Other top presidential bets who accepted GMA's invitation were Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Panfilo Lacson, Senator Manny Pacquiao, and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

Marcos on One PH also expressed his misgivings over the investigation by the International Criminal Court of the alleged crimes against humanity committed in President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.

He said the ICC may not investigate the alleged violations because the Philippines had a functioning judiciary.

Marcos questioned the ICC's jurisdiction in the country adding that its investigation could violate the Philippines' sovereignty. — DVM/NB, GMA News
