Comelec signs MOA with DepEd, DOST for Eleksyon 2022


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) on preparations for the 2022 national and local elections with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

The virtual MOA signing was led by Comelec chairman Sheriff Abas, Education Secretary Leonor Briones, and Science and Technology Secretary Forunato dela Peña.

According to lawyer Margaret Ching, Comelec director for Personnel Department, the MOA with the DOST pertains to the agency’s obligations pursuant to the Automated Election System Law which include the conduct of examinations and issuance of certifications to the electoral board members, as well as the coordination with the poll body’s regional offices.

The Comelec’s agreement with DepEd would cover the submission of the list of teachers who will serve as electoral board members and also their coordination with the poll body’s regional offices.

“On the part of the Comelec, our obligations are to provide the honoraria for all the hard work that our certifiers and our teachers will be going through during the final test and the election day, as well as to provide training and capacity building, trainings and programs for the teachers,” Ching said.

The virtual event was attended by Comelec Commissioner Marlon Casquejo, Executive Director Bartolome Sinocruz and Deputy Executive Director for Operations Teofisto Elnas Jr.

Briones was accompanied by Undersecretary Alain Pascua and Undersecretary Revsee Escobedo.

DOST officials who were also present at the event are Undersecretary Sancho Mabborang and DOST Director in the National Capital Region Jose Patalinjug III.—LDF, GMA News
