Abas, Guanzon bowing out of Comelec on Feb. 2

By GMA NEWS

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sheriff Abas and Commissioner Rowena Guanzon are both retiring from the poll body on February 2.

But before their last day, they still have work to do at the Comelec.

According to Tina Panganiban Perez's "24 Oras" report,  Guanzon said she had to finish 53 more resolutions by Wednesday, Feb. 2 midnight.

Asked if Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino-Ampoloquio would ask for her signature on a resolution,  the feisty Guanzon said Ferolino is not giving any response.

"I don't know if she (Ferolino) has no reply. I don't know what Sheriff Abas will do about her," said Guanzon.

Further, Guanzon told Ferolino that she would prioritize the image of Comelec.

"Let her live with that, you cannot make it a personal fight between her and me because I already said my reasons," she said.

"In the past I defended her but I have to defend the institution of Comelec first. I have to serve the people first," Guanzon added.

Guanzon has accused Ferolino of delaying the release of the Comelec resolution in the disqualification case against former senator Ferdinand  "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Ferolino said Guanzon was trying to influence her ruling.

After her retirement, Guanzon said she would continue "fighting wrongdoings."

Abas, who had already packed up his things, gave his last advice to commissioners before leaving his post.

He advised that commissioners should discuss their issues among themselves in a nice way instead of criticizing each other on social media or through the media.

"Sana magusap-usap sila nang maayos para yung mga problema madaling masolusyonan," he said.
