Vice presidential aspirant and Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Friday refused to name the senator who allegedly intervened in the resolution of the disqualification case against presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB’s Ikaw Na Ba: The Vice Presidential Interviews segment, Sotto said he would let retired Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Rowena Guanzon to disclose the name of the said senator.

“Hayaan ninyo na si Commissioner Guanzon ang magsabi kung sino sapagkat ‘pag ako nagsabi,  hearsay,” Sotto said.

(Just let Commissioner Guanzon disclose the name because if it will come from me, it will be just a hearsay.)

The Senate chief said is a complaint is filed against the unnamed senator, then it could be referred to the Senate ethics committee.

He said the chamber could not conduct a motu propio investigation if they have no direct knowledge of the violation allegedly committed by the senator.

Recently, Sotto confirmed that he already knows the name of the senator who allegedly intervened on the consolidated disqualification cases against Marcos.

Guanzon earlier linked an unnamed senator to the delay in the resolution of the petitions against Marcos.

On Tuesday, Guanzon dropped more hints about the senator, saying he is married, from Davao and had voted for Ferolino’s confirmation at the Commission on Appointments.

The outgoing poll official had said Comelec Commissioner Aimee Ferolino and the senator were “very close ever since they were both in Davao. I will not name him anymore because his wife already knows. It’s already viral.”

“It’s enough for me that his wife already knows and that’s going to be a war in his household,” she added.

Senator Ronald dela Rosa and Senator Bong Go are the only senators who come from Davao. They both sit at the Commission on Appointments.

During the Senate’s plenary session last Wednesday, senators poked fun at Dela Rosa over the controversy. — RSJ, GMA News
