Lacson campaign manager expects better survey ratings after debates

Presidential candidate Panfilo Lacson’s campaign manager on Wednesday said he believes the senator will have better survey ratings after the debates.

Ronnie Puno, National Unity Party chairman and campaign manager of Lacson and running mate, Vicente Sotto III, said the public sees  his candidate as an alternative leader.

“But over time, and I think, you are [going to notice this] in this next 45 days when debates will come around, interviews will come around, people will be asked about their platforms and their experience, and so on. I think we’re going to do well,” he said.

In the past elections, Puno said those topping the surveys start to slide down between January and March.

“This is [the period] when they really have to talk the walk and walk the talk. So, you know, I’m looking forward to this next 45 days. I think our candidate is really going to be the best in this period,” he said.

As for Sotto, Puno stressed the need to revive the “interest and enthusiasm” of the public towards him.

“I think that as we proceed, again, to the next period in this election, number one, Tito Sotto is not just an entertainer. He is a very deep thinker; he is knowledgeable of all issues of government,” he said.

Apart from this, he noted the public’s “genuine love” for the vice presidential hopeful.

“That’s a benefit also for Ping Lacson because obviously, there’s a huge, huge space of sympathetic people out there, and we just have to touch them again,” he said.

In December 2021, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, topped Pulse Asia's latest survey on presidential and vice presidential aspirants for the 2022 elections.

Lacson and Sotto ranked fifth and second, respectively, in the same  survey.

The tandem has launched their national campaign in Cavite on February 8, 2022, running on the slogans “Aayusin ang Gobyerno, Aayusin ang Buhay ng Bawat Pilipino” (Fix the Government, Fix the Lives of Every Filipino) and “Uubusin ang Magnanakaw” (Get Rid of the Thieves).—LDF, GMA News
